The seat for the Uyo State constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is getting the most deserved attention as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries approaches.
Over a handful of aspirants have purchased nomination and declaration of interest forms vying for the Uyo State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
As it was announced some days ago, many aspirants, including the leading aspirant, Uwemedimo Asuquo, were cleared by the party to stand for the primaries, aspiring to fly the flag of the largest political party in West Africa – PDP.
But the question remains; Who should be voted and why he should be voted?
For Equity, Justice And Fairness
Many may wonder why choosing Uwemedimo Asuquo will represent equity, justice and fairness, but as PDP goes around in its business, it has adopted what is now popular in other political parties and taken as part of the building process – Zoning. Zoning brings about equality and equal representation to all.
The House of Assembly seat in the Uyo State constituency was zoned to Ikono clan and as a matter of internal zoning, Ward 8.
Having two wards in Ikono Ibom clan (the other ward produced a house member last time it was zoned to Ikono), it is improper for people to still aspire from that same axis and fight with the people of Ward 8, who are yet to produce a house member.
Therefore, for equity, justice and fairness to take its full course, Ward 8 should produce the next house member and the best and most suitable is Uwemedimo Asuquo.
The People’s Person
“Become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily; even if you had no title or position.” Brian Tracy.
Uwemedimo Asuquo has been a people-carrier over time and the leadership quality in him places him at best position to represent Uyo.
This was witnessed some days ago when the PDP State Chairman visited the Uyo Senatorial District, hosted at Ibom hall ground. The number of people who followed Uwemedimo, cheering him, wearing his cap and T-shirt, and chanting his name was massive.
It will be a huge disappointment to such large crowd to allow another person to represent Uyo.
It is always said that experience is the best teacher and Uwemedimo Asuquo is vested with so much experience having handled the mantle of leadership for years.
He has been a Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State for two terms. This has placed him in a better position to be a good leader.
Therefore, representing his people at the State House will not be a new thing to him.
Relationship And Closeness To The Government At The Top
Having served the State Government for years as a political appointee and not elected, it is believed that his contributions and relationship with the sitting Government earned him the appointment.
Therefore, for Uyo to be able to gain access to the Government at the top through effective legislation, Uwemedimo Asuquo is the the best and closest aspirant to Government at the top.
For Youth Inclusion And Participation In Governance
Many were excited when President Buhari signed the not too young to run bill, but the bill is yet to take its full effect as youths are always second best when it come to governance.
Having served his people in different capacities with an idea of governance, if and when given power, he will make a good use of his experience.
