Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East (NE), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), neutralized over 50 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and destroyed numerous of their military equipment in a ferocious counteroffensive in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, issued a statement on Monday confirming this.

The troops, according to the statement, killed key ISWAP officers as well as foot soldiers.

“The gallant troops also unleashed massive destruction on the terrorists’ Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle and several Gun Trucks,” the statement partly read.

On the 13th of November 2021, the 115 Task Force Battalion had an encounter with ISWAP terrorists in Askira Uba, during which the troops aggressively maintained their position and then launched a ferocious counter-attack.

On November 15, 2021, the army said that it had killed 50 ISWAP terrorists in Borno.

Unfortunately, as they reinforced forces to protect the position, the Commander of 28 Task Force Brigade and three of his soldiers paid the ultimate price.

The courageous men of the 25 Task Force Brigade, assisted by the OPHK Air Component, engaged the terrorists in hot pursuit while the combat raged.

Troops encountered fleeing militants in Askira Uba LGA’s Leho village, and in the ensuing battle, troops killed dozens of terrorists and destroyed their war equipment.

An MRAP vehicle and 11 gun trucks were among the equipment destroyed by troops, according to General Nwachukwu.

Five Gun Trucks, two Anti-Aircraft Guns, five AK 47 rifles, one HK Machine Gun, and one HK Machine Gun link were among the weapons and ammo recovered by the forces.

In a related incident, forces from the 115th Task Force Battalion conducted morning exploitation near Leho village and its surrounds, discovering three terrorists’ bodies as well as 2,560 rounds of 7.62mm Special and 29 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition abandoned by the terrorists.

During a separate raid in the Karawa village and Baga Fish Dam areas, troops discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) and recovered one AK 47 rifle.

The IED was detonated successfully by a squad from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, according to General Nwachukwu.
