The Federal Government has donated relief materials worth about N100m to Plateau State for onward distribution to victims of gunmen attacks in the state.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk presented the relief materials to Governor Simon Lalong at a small ceremony at the 3 Division Barracks in Bassa Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

The Minister said the materials were in fulfilment of the commitment President Muhammadu Buhari made to the governor when he visited the Aso Rock and sought assistance for victims of the sad incidents.

In a statement by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Macham Makut, it was noted that the minister said, “The items worth almost N100m consist of food and non-food materials such as roofing sheets, nails, cement, rice, maize, soap and mattresses among others; and are meant to assist the people get back to their feet.”

Lalong appreciated the gesture but expressed sadness at the circumstances that led to the donation. He said it made the occasion a solemn one because of the loss of lives and property.
