The Badagry West Local Council Development Area has marked the 20th Anniversary of the Spelling Bee Competition with fanfare and gifts for the participating kids at the Marriage Registry Hall of Suntan Beach, according to a report by The Nation.

The report said that the wife of the council Chairman, Mrs Gbenu Esther, while congratulating winners of the preliminaries, urged the pupils to put in their best to emerge winners at the state level.

She said: “I enjoin you to put in your best to make this council proud at the state level by achieving the ultimate goal of becoming the One-Day Governor of Lagos state.”

The council boss’s wife was reported to have warned parents and guardians against child abuse, saying government will not hesitate to prosecute perpetrators. She also warned the pupils to shun all forms of vices.

Vice-Chairman of the council, Rauf Yemaren, who represented the Chairman, Gbenu Joseph, presented gifts to the pupils, and reminded the gathering that education is the bedrock of civilisation and modern technology.

Report says Oni Ezekiel, Umoh Miracle  and Timothy Oluwaseun won the primary category, while Juliana Sewanu, Abiodun Hibatulah and Obi Abraham  won the secondary category.
