The Nigerian Navy has released comedian and skit maker, Abdulgafar Ahmad, alias Cute Abiola, from detention.

Commodore Suleman Dahun, a spokesperson for the Navy, verified the news to The PUNCH newspaper, on Friday.

Cute Abiola was reported missing on Monday, November 15, 2021, when his fellow comedian Debo Adedayo nicknamed Mr. Macaroni raised the alarm that he was nowhere to be seen after reporting to his office in Navy Town, Lagos, on the same day.

Dahun announced two days after the alarm was raised that the comedian was not missing, but had been jailed for violating military rules by posting a video of himself in military uniform on social media, which was alleged to be in violation of the armed forces’ social media policy.

Dahun further stated that the comedian failed to appear when summoned to explain himself and that he only appeared after his leave expired on November 15, 2021, and was arrested the same day.

The naval spokesman told The PUNCH on Friday that Ahmad knowingly broke the armed forces’ social media rules, but that he was punished after being prosecuted for misbehavior and indiscipline.

He went on to say that the skit maker is no longer in naval custody and has been freed to complete his sentence.
