Justice Benson Anya of the Abia State High Court has ruled that the infiltration of security agents to the home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in 2017 was unlawful and an infringement on his human rights.

On Wednesday, the judge determined that his kidnapping and forced return to Nigeria were “illegal” under both local and international law.

Anya further ordered the Nigerian government to compensate Kanu for the infringement of his fundamental human rights with an amount of N1 billion.
