The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have taken to embark on yet another peaceful protest to call on both the Federal Government of Nigeria and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to ensure students are back to their classrooms.

It has been over four months since ASUU embarked on a strike action over several issues, including the Federal Government’s inability to fund the various higher institutions.

NANS Public Relations Officer, Comrade Utibe Ekanem, made it known on his official Facebook account, that the Nigerian students in the Akwa Ibom State axis will make a peaceful protest on Federal Government facilities and federal roads to send a message to the government to hasten their negotiations with ASUU.

“Hence, a dire need to express our displeasure within civil perimeters, as we match peacefully around the federal roads in Uyo, as well as occupy peacefully all Federal Government parastatals in Akwa Ibom state,” Ekanem wrote.

He called on all Nigerian students to join in the match, and also called on security agencies in the state to monitor the movement, as he seeks not to allow the peaceful movement be hijacked by hoodlums.

“We hereby call on all Nigerian students in Akwa Ibom to join in this solidarity, also the security agencies to give us security coverage as ‘an injury to one is an injury to all’ Viva aluta!!” He added.

The protest is said to be conducted on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 by 7am.
