Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar climbed to second in the highest goalscoring ranking in a single Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Aboubakar’s AFCON 2021 goal tally is only bettered by Dr. Congo’s Pierre Mulamba Ndiaye who scored nine goals in the 1974 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 30-year old came on as a substitute in their third-place victory over Burkina Faso and scored twice, taking his goal tally to 8 in the ongoing AFCON in his homeland.

Aboubakar was on six goals, but his brace against Burkina Faso that brought his side level after falling 3-0 with less than 20 minutes to go further secured his place as the current top scorer.

The Al Nassr forward is followed by his fellow countryman Toko Ekambi who is on five goals.

But as both players have finished their tournament having secured third place on Saturday night, it appears the ranking is unlikely to change as both Senegal and Egypt do not have a player to challenge.
